An Immersive RGB Fiber Optic Star Ceiling With Over 2,800 Stars
For this private home theater, the client wanted a true cinema-quality atmosphere—an immersive starlight ceiling that wrapped the entire room. Using an RGB fiber optic system and custom-engineered platforms for audio and video equipment, we delivered a fully integrated, low-maintenance ceiling built around the way the room is actually used.
Project Overview
The client was building a dedicated private theater and wanted the ceiling to feel like part of the experience—not just a backdrop. After reviewing options, they chose to skip cove lighting entirely and dedicate the full ceiling to a fiber optic starlight design.
The ceiling needed to support in-ceiling speakers, a ceiling-mounted projector, and a hidden light source, all while maintaining a perfectly seamless dark finish to enhance projector contrast.
The Solution
We installed a custom RGB fiber optic starlight stretch ceiling with over 2,800 individually placed stars spanning the entire room—creating a wrap-around galaxy effect rather than a single accent panel.
The fiber optic light engine (driver) was located inside the AV closet, keeping it cool, silent, and easily accessible for future maintenance without disturbing the ceiling membrane.
To accommodate the client's high-end audio and video setup, we engineered custom platforms behind the ceiling for each in-ceiling speaker, allowing them to penetrate cleanly through the stretch membrane. A dedicated platform was also built to mount the projector flush to the ceiling.
